07.05.01 ‘da Kink in my Hair has now wrapped, a new original series, produced in association with Global Television

Principal photography on ‘da Kink in my Hair has now wrapped, a new original series, produced in association with Global Television scheduled to air in Fall 2007 - the 30-minute (13-episode) comedic drama series based on trey anthony’s award-winning play of the same name, is set in Letty’s, a bustling hair salon in Toronto’s Caribbean community - the place where women go to let their hair down in more ways than one.

“When I first wrote the play, it was as an outlet for me to express myself at a time when I was questioning my life, my friends, my family, my identity, and myself. At the time I never imagined that my work would end up inspiring so many people. I hope that the television series will be another forum to touch, entertain, and inspire,” says anthony.

Novelette Campbell (Ordena Stephens-Thompson), Letty’s smart and vivacious owner, doesn’t just style her clients’ hair, she knows just how to make them open up.

But, Novelette has many a tangle to tame in her own life. Although she has the answers for her clients’ dilemmas she can’t always figure out how to deal with her zany younger sister Joy (trey anthony) or her Jamaican born fourteen-year old son Dre (Conroy Stewart). Add to this Novelette’s extended family of hairstylists, the beautiful wide-eyed Starr (Ngozi Paul) and the wicked tongued bad boy Nigel (Richard Fagon) and you get a salon bursting with laughter, enjoyable commotion, and a vibrant loving heart.

“Having already found award-winning success on the stage, we look forward to bringing trey anthony’s play to an even broader audience via the small screen,” said Christine Shipton, Vice President, Original Programming, CanWest MediaWorks. “The compelling women and the heartfelt relationships that form the foundation of this story are sure to give this new series a wide-ranging appeal.”

Ordena Stephens-Thompson, trey anthony, Ngozi Paul, Richard Fagon and Conroy Stewart star. The ensemble cast will also include featured appearances from notable Canadian talent, such as recording artists Jully Black, Keshia Chante and noted television personality and music producer, Farley Flex.

‘da Kink in my Hair is a Barna-Alper, trey anthony, Ngozika, Defiant Entertainment production. trey anthony, Ngozi Paul, Laszlo Barna, Damion Nurse and Shelley Scarrow serve as executive producers. The debut season will feature the aesthetic vision of directors Sudz Sutherland, Stefan Scaini, Jane Thompson, Tim Southam and Charles Officer.
